THE STICK BLENDER

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING EXERCISE: To ensure the team members understand the importance of keeping the Stick Blender clean.

TRAINING AIDS:  Company approved sanitiser and multi-purpose detergent  Clean yellow cloth and paper towels  PPE – Rubber gloves or white disposable gloves and apron

TRAINING METHOD: This is a practical training exercise. The trainer should demonstrate how to clean the Stick Blender to the group whilst referring to these training notes ASK QUESTION TO GROUP: Why is it important to clean the stick blender after every use? CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWER:

 Reduce the risk of cross contamination  To ensure the food is properly mixed  Improve the quality of the food  To ensure the mixer works effectively  Reduce the risk of fires  It is a legal requirement to keep all food equipment clean.

WARNING – Trainer to inform team  The machine should be switched off before assembling or disassembling  The motor base, cord or plug should never be immersed into water or any other liquid  Keep hands, hair, clothing and utensils away from the blade whilst operating to prevent injury.  The machine should be taken to the saucepan  Do not reach over other hot equipment whilst using the blender  Avoid trailing the wires over cooking equipment  Replace stick on hook after use or lie flat when not in use  Do not use fingers to remove the food debris a spatula or bottle brush should be used  Check wires regularly for splits and repair if required  Only trained kitchen team members to use the machine  Do not use if the blade guard/shroud is broken or damaged HOW TO CLEAN THE STICK BLENDER:  Ensure the machine is switched off before cleaning starts  Remove the locking nuts if applicable that secure the blades using the tool provided, for other machines twist and remove attachment  Place blades or attachment into dishwasher, run through the wash cycle  Check all food residue has been removed and allow to air dry  Manually agitate the shaft in hot soapy manual pot wash detergent to remove any food debris – if heavy build up is evident use a bottle brush to remove.  Spray the yellow cloth with detergent and clean the motor body and guard – do not immerse motor body in water or any liquid  Apply sanitiser and leave the sanitiser for 1 minute contact time and wipe with paper roll  Wipe motor body and cord clean with a damp yellow cloth or paper towel  Ensure all buttons and dials are clean  Replace all items once clean
