HAZARD SPOTTING

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING EXERCISE: To ensure staff know how to look for hazards within the workplace and understand the procedure for reducing the risk

TRAINING METHOD: Explanation, questioning and a “Hazard Spotting” exercise

EXPLAIN TO THE TEAM:

Every workplace has a degree of risk associated with the building, the equipment or the job role, some clearly more than others. People working on a building site for example are obviously more exposed to workplace danger than people working on the tills in a supermarket. The objective of this training session is to give you an understanding of the potential hazards in our own workplace and your role in making sure that we all carry out our tasks in a safe manner.

ASK QUESTION TO GROUP: Think about the actual building we work in. Give me some examples of potential hazards that you have noticed? CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWERS:  Answers will be specific to your premises, but some answers may be: o Pot holes in car park / Loose slabs / bricks in paths o Loose footings on stairs, o Slippery kitchen floor / spillages in the restaurant o Damaged electric sockets.
